Forms updated for new STS COVID-19 field

Due to a reported increase in poor surgical outcomes for patients who are COVID-19 positive, the STS activated the use of the temporary field TempCode to begin gathering COVID-19 information for all patients who underwent a surgical procedure on or after January 1, 2020. This field will have five options using Harvest Codes 10-14*. To code "Yes", the patient must have had a laboratory confirmed diagnosis, not a suspected diagnosis.

ACSD versions 2.9 and 4.20: Use TempCode Sequence 7230
Did the patient have a laboratory confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19?

  • No (Harvest Code 10)
  • Yes, prior to hospitalization for this surgery (Harvest Code 11)
  • Yes, in hospital prior to surgery (Harvest Code 12)
  • Yes, in hospital after surgery (Harvest Code 13)
  • Yes, after discharge within 30 days of surgery (Harvest Code 14)

GTSD version 2.41: Use TempCode Sequence 4080
Did the patient have a laboratory confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19?

  • No (Harvest Code 10)
  • Yes, prior to hospitalization for this surgery (Harvest Code 11)
  • Yes, in hospital prior to surgery (Harvest Code 12)
  • Yes, in hospital after surgery (Harvest Code 13)
  • Yes, after discharge within 30 days of surgery (Harvest Code 14)

CHSD version 3.41: Use TempCode Sequence 6724
Did the patient have a laboratory confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19?

  • No (Harvest Code 10)
  • Yes, prior to hospitalization for this surgery (Harvest Code 11)
  • Yes, in hospital prior to surgery (Harvest Code 12)
  • Yes, in hospital after surgery (Harvest Code 13)
  • Yes, after discharge within 30 days of surgery (Harvest Code 14)

To facilitate this effort, LUMEDX has updated the forms to replace the TempCode labels with the question to be answered, and has included the Harvest Code translations on the forms as the STS wants the numeric harvest code collected. See the example for the ACSD below.

LUMEDX will create updated forms for all three STS registries (Adult Cardiac, General Thoracic, and Congenital Heart) and will post these forms to your Release Site. Clients are invited to download the updated form(s) and substitute them into their registry view(s) using the Apollo View Manager. If you have not done this before, we will review how to do this on the STS User Group Call on April 21. Additionally, LUMEDX Technical Support is available to assist with this if needed. Please contact Technical Support at 1-800-966-0669, Ext. 3.

We realize these are challenging times and that we are all being asked to stretch and do more. The entire LUMEDX family wants to thank you for what you do to support and care for your patients. We want to remind you that we are here, with you, to support you. Please stay safe and healthy.

Sincerely,
