What Factors Influence Physician EHR Adoption?
A recent data brief from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) found that 80% of physician surveyed said that they were already using an EHR or planned to implement the technology. The survey also found that primary care physicians and larger physician practices are more likely to adopt EHRs. 86% of multispecialty practices used an EHR as compared with 76% of single-specialty practices.
Hospital Groups Call for Avoiding Another ICD-10 Delay
EHR Intelligence reports that a group of hospital and health system associations have signed a petition asking Congress to avoid another ICD-10 delay. These groups include the American Hospital Association, the Association of American Medical Colleges, and America's Essential Hospitals.
HHS Will Push Broader Reach for Information Technology
According to Modern Healthcare, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) has created a new plan that focuses on improving the penetration of healthcare IT beyond hospitals and physician practices. The new plan also takes into account long-term and post acute care, behavioral health, community-based care, and other populations.
CMS: Meaningful Use Payments Tops $25.7B
As of December 1, 2014, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has paid out over $25.7B in meaningful use payments to eligible hospitals and healthcare professionals. Despite this, less than 35% of the national's hospitals have met Stage 2 Meaningful Use requirements.
