Lumedx And Acuson Announce Integration Of Cardiac Image And Information Management Systems At Ucsf Medical Center

Echocardiography Reports Available Throughout Entire Hospital
ASE Booth# 500

SEATTLE - June 28, 2001 - LUMEDX Corporation and Acuson, a Siemens Company, today announced the integration between LUMEDX's Apollo32™ cardiovascular data management system and the KinetDx™ Solutions Network at the University of California Medical Center in San Francisco. The import interface for the KinetDx system and Apollo32 was developed specifically for the UCSF Medical Center's Adult Echocardiography lab to enable the Apollo32 system to import and display the echocardiogram reports generated by the KinetDx system. The interface allows clinicians to review all cardiac reports from anywhere in the hospital.

"We expect the Apollo32 and KinetDx network interface to improve our practice in the Echocardiography Lab," said Elyse Foster, M.D., professor of clinical medicine and director, Adult Echocardiography Laboratory, UCSF Medical Center. "It will allow the clinical community, both inpatient and outpatient, to access echocardiography reports throughout the medical system. Additionally, it will enhance our ability to correlate echocardiographic data with that from other studies such as cardiac catheterization. We expect that the implementation of this interface will have an important impact on patient care."

The Interface acquires rich-text format (RTF) reports generated by the KinetDx system and creates patient records in the Apollo32 cardiac database. The reports can then be exported to the Hospital Information System (HIS). This new interface will enable physicians and administrators to access all the necessary information generated from an echocardiography exam including measurements, calculations, patient demographics, previous and current diagnoses and indications. LUMEDX plans to make the interface available to its installed base and future customers.

The Apollo32 product line is a modular suite of clinical-data repository products focused on cardiovascular medical specialties and subspecialties. The program gathers and merges complex information streams, offering physicians and administrators desktop access to rich longitudinal patient data and aggregated clinical cost outcomes. Apollo32 also supports a robust reporting solution and comes with prepackaged reports that address clinical outcomes, productivity, cost, patient demographics and statistical analysis from a consolidated cardiology data repository.

The KinetDx network provides a review, report and archive system for increasing productivity, managing costs and increasing workflow efficiencies, making the digital laboratory a practical reality for hospital-wide echocardiography and ultrasound departments of any size worldwide. The KinetDx system is DICOM compliant with the medical imaging communications standard TCP/IP and the Windows NT operating system.
