Seattle Systems, Inc. Receives Full Certification From Society Of Thoracic Surgeons; Allows Hospitals To Contribute To National Database

--Rigorous Testing Yields Addition of New Functionalities to Apollo Software--

OAKLAND, CA--May 1, 2000-Seattle Systems, Inc. --the market leader in cardiovascular clinical information systems-today announced that its Apollo32™ clinical information system has been fully certified by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons to support the Society’s National Cardiac Surgery (NCS) Database. The certification will allow Seattle Systems’ more than 250 hospital customers the opportunity to contribute their individual data to the Society’s NCS Database via its Apollo software. Ultimately, Society members use the data-contributed by more than 600 hospitals and clinics and distilled from nearly 1.2 million patients-for benchmarking results, identifying operating efficiencies and improving patient care within cardiovascular medicine.

Seattle Systems became only the fifth software vendor to receive the Society’s certification by passing a series of rigorous testing, which included the addition of new functionalities to Apollo.

"The enhancements we made to Apollo, in order to facilitate the STS registry data collection, will allow our current and future customer hospitals and clinics to collect, export and analyze important cardiac information efficiently and cost-effectively.", said Allyn D. McAuley, CEO of Seattle Systems, Inc. "The certification is yet another step in realizing our goal of streamlining clinical-information management and helping improve overall patient care."

To become fully certified, Seattle Systems' Apollo software passed two phases of testing. General compliance-or Phase I-required an audit of Seattle Systems' software and data specifications. In the Phase II certification process, Seattle Systems used a software algorithm furnished by the Society to make risk assessments for cardiac patients based on their data in Apollo. The risk assessments were then verified by the Society based on its standard set of risk estimates.

Seattle Systems' Apollo software has also been certified by the American College of Cardiology as a compliant system for participation in its database registry.
