Agilent Technologies will Deliver Cardiology Data-management Solution with Apollo32 Software Palo Alto and Oakland, California

Aug. 3, 1999-- Agilent Technologies, a subsidary of Hewlett-Packard Corporation, and Seattle Systems, Inc., today announced an agreement under which HP plans to deliver Seattle Systems' Apollo32 Cardiology Clinical Information Systems software. Seattle Systems is a leading provider of outcome-oriented software solutions for the specialized information-management needs of cardiovascular medicine.

The agreement is part of the HP Healthcare Solutions Group's strategy to build relationships with best-in-class technology partners to meet customer demand for more efficient and cost-effective tools to help analyze and improve the healthcare-delivery process. HP will provide a complete range of professional services to support the Apollo32 software, using proven project-management methodology and a comprehensive set of delivery tools. Those professional services include the following:

  • implementation services -- to define cardiology department needs, provide recommendations and install, customize and verify Apollo32 application software;
  • interfacing/integration services -- to provide access to HP TraceMaster, HP EnConcert and clinical information systems from other companies to enable multimodality analysis;
  • system/network consulting -- to assess network capabilities and make the changes necessary to support Apollo32 application software; and
  • hardware procurement -- to assess equipment needs, install, configure and test hardware and operating-system software.

Recognizing that clinicians play a variety of roles, including caregiver, researcher and often business administrator, HP has partnered with Seattle Systems to provide a total data-integration solution that enables clinicians to intelligently access and manage their clinical data. Accurate and reliable clinical information is essential for effective research, outcome studies and financial analyses.

"In the cardiology department, efficiently managing the flow of information is essential to providing a high level of care," said Chuck Hutzler, program manager of Integrated Solutions for HP's Healthcare Solutions Group. "Technology provides a wealth of data from a variety of sources, from the clinical systems supporting diagnosis and treatment to healthcare information systems (HIS) tracking demographics and financial information. Managing this vast store of information effectively is crucial in today's outcome-driven healthcare-delivery system."

Apollo32 software, which is used in one-third of the nation's top cardiology centers, gathers and merges complex information streams throughout the entire cardiology department. It integrates data from the hospital information system and clinical subsystems, enabling easy, point-of-care access to patient demographics, history, laboratory and pharmacy data, along with detailed clinical information.

"Seattle Systems' Apollo32 software technology, coupled with HP's information-integration services, presents a powerful tool for the cardiology customer," said Laurel A. Shearer, senior vice president of Seattle Systems. "Our agreement leverages the strengths of both companies for the benefit of the hospital, the clinician and, ultimately, the patient."

"Our goal is to help our customers unlock the value of their data," said Hutzler. "Seattle Systems is the leader in multiple clinical-modality data-analysis software. This agreement allows us to offer our customers cutting-edge ways to most effectively use all of the data they gather from disparate sources. Ultimately, this improves patient outcomes and reduces costs."
