National Health IT Week – September 16-20, 2013

You may have noticed the use of the following logo floating around these past few days and wondered what it represents. We even have it as the current profile picture for our Twitter handle here.

That’s because this week (September 16-20, 2013) marks the eighth year of National Health IT Week. National Health IT Week is an annual event put on by a collaborative group of healthcare providers, government agencies, insurance companies, research foundations, and healthcare IT vendors to address the growing role of technology in healthcare.

The official National Health IT Week website states that: “Comprehensive health care reform is not possible without system-wide adoption of health information technology, which improves the quality of healthcare delivery, increases patient safety, decreases medical errors, and strengthens the interaction between patients and healthcare providers.”

So how can you get involved?

  • Educate yourself about the healthcare IT climate and current policies and stories. We have a weekly news round-up here.
  • Participate in the HIMSS Value of Health IT Twitter Chat this Friday, Sept. 20 at 12 noon ET. Details here.
  • Look up more National Health IT Week news by searching for the hashtag #NHITweek on social media.

How is your organization celebrating National Health IT Week this year?
